The primary engine used in the Frontier is a 4.0-liter, V-6 that produces 261 horsepower and 281 lb.-ft. of torque. A 2.5-liter, inline, four-cylinder engine with 152 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque is available on two-wheel drive King Cab XE and SE-I4 models. Transmissions include a five-speed automatic, six-speed manual and for the four-cylinder models, a five-speed manual. Puyallup Nissan has all the details about the 2010 Nissan Frontier.
Four-by-four models include a shift-on-the-fly system with two-wheel, four high and four low modes operated by an electronically controlled, part-time transfer case. A four-wheel limited-slip system is available that transfers power to the drive wheels with more grip. That's an important feature for off-roaders, a Nissan dealer Richmond says. Available hill descent control and hill start assist are standard on V-6 SE, Le and PRO-4X models with the automatic transmission.
Payload capacity ranges from 899 pounds on the 4x2 SE with automatic transmission up to 1,583 pounds on the SE V-6 4x2. Towing capacity is 3,500 pounds for the four-cylinder models, 6,500 pounds for the V-6 4x2 and 6,300 pounds for the V-6 4x4. Fuel economy for the 4x2 models is as much as 19 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, while V-6 4x2 models achieve 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway with the manual transmission.
